This forum is open to City employees at all career stages who are interested in building stronger financial knowledge and learning about resources available to support their financial goals.

Sessions

The summit will consist of a series of educational sessions presented by experts from COAERS. The sessions are designed to provide insights into various aspects of financial, retirement planning, and post-retirement life.

The Member Summit event will include the following sessions:

1. Retirement Readiness: Understanding Your Lifetime Benefit | Presented by COAERS
   • COAERS benefits are an important part of your long-term financial security. This session explains how your lifetime pension benefit works, including service credit, contributions, vesting, benefit calculations, and common questions members may have throughout their careers.
2. Demystifying Service Purchase: What You Need to Know | Presented by COAERS
   • Service credit can play an important role in your future retirement benefit. This session explains what service credit is, the types of service credit purchases that may be available, including sick leave purchase, and key timing and cost considerations members should understand before making decisions.
3. Empowering Retirement with Deferred Compensation | Presented by Empower
   • Your COAERS pension provides a strong foundation for retirement, and deferred compensation can help support your broader retirement income strategy. This session explains how deferred compensation works, how it can complement your pension benefit, and what tools are available to help you plan for the future.
4. Navigating Aging, Caregiving, and Community Resources | Presented by Area Agency
   • Retirement readiness is not only about income. This session highlights how to plan ahead for aging-related transitions, caregiving responsibilities, and changing support needs. Attendees will learn about available community resources and practical steps they can take before challenges arise.
5. Building Financial Longevity: Planning for the Retirement You Want | Presented by COAERS
   • Explore how to think about retirement readiness over the long term. Learn how your pension, personal savings, healthcare planning, caregiving considerations, and informed decision-making can work together to support financial stability and confidence throughout retirement.
6. State of the Pension Fund | Presented by COAERS 
   • This session provides a high-level update on the health and administration of the retirement system. Members will hear about the funding and investment updates.
7. Leadership Q&A | Presented by COAERS Leadership and Subject Matter Experts
   • Hear directly from COAERS leadership and subject matter experts. Questions may cover benefits, investments, operations, retirement planning, service credit, and other topics raised throughout the day.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with organizations providing information and support related to financial wellness, aging services, education, and community resources.

1. Austin Energy HQ Visitor Parking Garagelocated on the 1st floor of the parking garage (G1).Enter via Garcia St or Philomena St
    
2. COAERS Visitor Parking Garage
   • Location: 1401 Philomena St.  (3rd floor parking level and above)
   • Park on the 3rd floor of the parking garage (P3) and above.
   • Enter via Garcia St or Philomena St
   • Avoid parking in spots marked reserved
   • After parking, walk over to the Austin Energy Building and enter via the Mueller Blvd entrance

If the parking garage is full, street parking is available in the area.
