It is with deepest sympathy that COAERS extends condolences to all members who have lost a loved one. Due to security and privacy concerns, COAERS will no longer publish the names of deceased members in its publications. Instances of identity theft have grown exponentially in recent years, with major breaches at Target, Experian, and more.

On July 17th, COAERS held its Annual Members’ Meeting, where COAERS’ members received an organizational update. Speakers included COAERS’ Actuary, Mr. Lewis Ward, Chief Investment Officer Mr. David Veal and Executive Director Mr. Christopher Hanson. Attendees included members of the Board of Trustees, active and retired members, and Staff. See below for links to a summary of the meeting, presentation slides, and pension terminology. We are currently searching for retirees to volunteer to serve on the COAERS Nominating and Election Committee, which will oversee this fall's election for Retired Member Place #11 on the COAERS Board of Trustees. The Committee will develop the ballot and certify the results of the election. The Committee will meet once in June and then three or four times in the fall of 2018.

The Texas Public Policy Foundation and the Reason Foundation published a report on the City of Austin Employees’ Retirement System (COAERS) entitled “Evaluating Solutions for Austin’s Billion Dollar Pension Crisis”.
