COA ERS Now Accepting Applications for Retired Board Trustee Position

The COA ERS Board of Trustees is now accepting applications from retirees who wish to run for the Place #11 Retired Member Trustee position on the Board. This position is currently being held by Janet Bartles.

Each Board Trustee accepts a high standard of fiduciary responsibility to govern and oversee the pension plan and its assets. Each Trustee is required to follow a code of ethics and make certain financial disclosures. In addition, Trustees are required to regularly attend Board meetings and serve on a Board committee.

COA ERS will be conducting its Retired Member Place #11 election this year from mid-October through December 1st. Candidates for the Place #11 Retired Trustee position must complete an application and submit it to COA ERS no later than 5 p.m. September 7, 2010.

Funding & Benefit Structure Talks Progress - No Changes to Current Employees or Retirees

The City of Austin is considering ways to improve the long-term financial soundness of COA ERS. Currently, there are certain financial indicators of COA ERS that need to improve in the future to provide assurances that benefits and obligations can be paid over many generations of members. Improvements to COA ERS should include future contribution rates, future benefit levels, and the impact to taxpayers and ratepayers of the City of Austin. The options under consideration will not impact the benefits of current City of Austin employees nor will it affect current retirees.
